Wicker Moon Chair

There is a lot of confusion and misunderstanding when it comes down to what is a wicker moon chair exactly. In the article below I discuss what is exactly a wicker chair and how you can easily waterproof it.

What Is A Wicker Chair Exactly?

A wicker chair is a chair that is made by weaving chair seats and/or furniture. This will result in a great and comfy woven chair, buggy, basket or couch. So, you can see that wicker is not really a material; it is in fact the art of weaving a chosen material - there are many materials that could be used to weave a moon chair - to produce a final piece of product that is both nice and comfortable. So, wicker is the manufacturing process itself, not the chosen materials.

Real And Paper Wicker Chairs

Many people also confuse and do not know the difference between what is called real and paper wicker. Both fabrics are real wicker, but the real difference is among paper fiber and rattan reed wicker. Paper fiber was invented somewhere around the 1900' and it is a man-made fabric. It usually features a brown paper color. This type of fabric would be stained, dyed or painted most pieces before they went to store to become available to the public. Rattan reed wickers on the other hand, is a wicker that can break and snap like a stick and it is a natural growing material, opposite from the paper fiber material which is man-made.

Should You Use Your Wicker Moon Chair For Your Outdoor Events?

Many people love the moon chair ability to fold and carry around everywhere they want. That is why they will usually have one of these in their home so they can easily adapt and suit according to the event's need. Due to its light weight properties, moon chairs will be one of the best outdoor patio furniture that you may have at your disposal.

Having said that, many people wonder if they can leave their wicker moon chair in their deck and use it for social gatherings.

The answer is yes! You can.

BUT, you should not leave your moon chair unattended for a very long time out there - 1+ month - withstanding all the weather elements that might come its way. Wicker moon chair are usually very resistant and a great addition to your outdoor patio furniture arsenal, but I would recommend leaving it either under a protected shelter where no heavy rain will fall upon it; or, as a second option, you might put it outside to use it for your outdoor event and gathering and then when the party is over, you can put it back inside.

It is definitely not a good idea to leave a wicker chair in your patio for a very long time since it might be a disastrous experience. Not only the moon chair will have to face hot sunny days, it will also have to withstand heavy rain that might come its way. This will be even worse due to the constant temperature change that will damage your wicker chair.

Water Proofing Your Wicker Moon Chair

Water proofing your wicker moon chair might be a waste of time. I'm not the only saying that. There are indeed many products available in the market these days, but they are not good enough to prevent many of the common problems that might show up from leaving your moon chair unattended for a long time along with your outdoor patio furniture.

If you have a unique, beautiful and antique wicker chair, then I would definitely recommend forgetting all about water proofing your moon chair - you can still do it if you want, but I see it as a waste of money - and make sure you always put your wicker moon chair back inside when your events are finished.
